If you've carefully been avoiding fatty foods to take care of your heart, here’s a word of warning.
A low-fat diet may not protect against heart disease unless you eat ‘good fats’ too, a study has found.
In one of the largest studies of heart disease ever, scientists at the University of Cambridge examined the diets of 25,000 Britons aged between 40 and 79.
They found those who ate foods rich in omega 6 – a fatty acid present in vegetable oils, nuts and seeds – significantly reduced their risk of heart problems.
But those who had simply cut their intake of unhealthy saturated fat did not reduce their risk to the same extent.
The researchers suggest the ‘balance of fats’ in our diets could be the key to preventing coronary heart disease, which is the UK’s biggest killer.

Grandfather who watched £1,000 cash blow away after he tripped outside bank stunned as kind strangers return almost every penny.
A grandfather who fell outside a bank and saw his £1,000 in cash blow away in the wind was amazed when strangers returned almost every penny.
Barry Eastwood, 54, had left the Abbey Santander branch in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, after withdrawing the money for his car insurance.
But as he crossed the road, Mr Eastwood tripped and fell on his face, breaking his glasses.
The money was blown from his hand and Barry went back to his car with just £60 left.
His son Richard, 29, who had been waiting for him, jumped out to try and recover some of it.
But to their amazement, dozens of passers-by began grabbing the notes as fast as they could, and returning them.
The onlookers, all aged between about 12 and 25, managed to collect almost every note except one £20.
The grandfather of 13, said: 'The money went flying in the air. I saw all these young lads started grabbing the notes and I thought I’ve got no chance here.
'But they brought it all back back - I couldn’t believe it! They were jumping up and catching the notes - it’s a shame no one had a camera.
'There must have been about 20 lads - they were all young lads. I ended up with all the money back bar £20.'
Former labourer Mr Eastwood, of Salford, who has had to retire due to heart problems, was even handed back his passport and bank card which he had also dropped.
'It was absolutely brilliant. Especially in this day and age the way people are,' he said.
'I would like to say a big thanks to all the people that helped retrieve my money and for their kindness and genuine show of concern.
'I just felt this was a story to be shared. It has given me a sense that all is not lost and that there is still some decency in this deteriorating world.
'Thanks to everyone,' he said.
You've heard them time and
time again; the diet and training myths that are said to be gospel.
There is always that one
person who is slightly in shape and assumes they know what they’re talking
about when it comes to diet and training. They pass on their ill-founded words
of wisdom to a few other exercise newbies who then pass on the mistakes they
have learnt until every one is following these myths, greatly reducing their
own potential not only to improve their fitness levels but do it in the best
possible time.
In this article I will cover
some of the most detrimental training and diet myths to help you avoid the
pitfalls so many have fallen into.
Of all the fitness rumours
ever to have surfaced, experts agree that "no pain-no gain" holds the
most potential for harm. While you should expect to have some degree of
soreness a day or two after working out, that's very different from
feeling pain while you are working out.
A fitness activity should not
hurt while you are doing it, if it is hurting the most likely possibilities are
that you are doing the activity wrong or you are irritating an existing injury.
As for ‘working through the
pain’, this is just illogical. It’s very simple: if it hurts, stop, rest, and
see if the pain goes away. If it doesn't go away, or if it begins again or
increases after you start to work out, see a doctor.
Although it may seem as if an
exercise machine automatically puts your body in the right position and helps
you do all the movements correctly, that's only true if the machine is properly
adjusted for your weight and height.
Unless you have a coach or a
trainer figure out what is the right setting for you, you can make just as many
mistakes in form and function, and have just as high a risk of injury on a
machine as if you work out with free weights or do any other type of non-machine
workout. Simply ask someone to show you how; there is no shame in it.
One of the biggest mistakes
people tend to make when starting or returning to an exercise program is doing
too much too soon; this is called overtraining and is so easily done because we
feel fine at the time. The over training feeling does not kick in until a day
or two after, then your body will certainly let you know what you did wrong. In
a word - ouch!
No matter how good you feel
when you return to an activity after an absence, you should never try to match
how much or how hard you worked in the past. It could take you back out of the
game again.
Sweating is not always an
indicator of exertion; it’s just your body’s way of cooling itself.
It's possible to burn a
significant number of calories without breaking a sweat; Try taking a walk or
doing some light weight training.
This is the one I get the
most and is now like nails on a chalk board for me. Don't believe everything
you hear on those late-night infomercials! While an ab-crunching device might help
strengthen the muscles around your midsection and improve your posture, being
able to ‘see’ your abdominal muscles has to do with your overall percentage of
body fat. If you don't lose the belly fat, you won't see the ab muscles.
Then I get this question, “But
can doing ab crunches help you to lose that belly fat?” No!
You can’t pick and choose
areas where you’d like to burn fat. So crunches aren't going to target
weight loss in that area.
In order to burn fat, you
should create a workout that includes both cardiovascular and strength-training
elements. This will decrease your overall body fat content, including the area
around your midsection.
A
lot of people claim to have a sound diet, but this usually ends up being in the
form of a starvation diet. It probably includes skipping breakfast, eating a salad at lunch and one
slice of cheese for dinner if you’re lucky.
Breakfast
is known as the most important meal of the day for a reason; your body is
begging for fuel as it has not received any in most likely a good eight to ten
hours. Skipping meals frequently actually slows your metabolism down and it is much more beneficial
to eat five to six smaller meals spaced evenly throughout the day.
A
lot of people are always confused by this as they think eating so frequently will
cause them to gain weight. This simply is not true unless you eat many calories
above your maintenance level. Let's say 1,500 calories is adequate for your goal of weight loss. Instead of eating two 700-calorie meals,
five meals consisting of about 300 calories would be much better.
Hopefully
these points will clear things up for you as to what is fact and what is
fiction when it comes to training and diet. There is a lot of misinformation
out there that continues to circulate every gym in Manchester and beyond (as
evidenced by those in the gym who fail to improve from one year to the next).
While
it is true that not all of us have the genetics to be professional bodybuilders
or professional athletes; the one thing we can all do regardless of body type
is improve.

This post isn't for the weak of stomach or faint of heart. The sad truth of being an automotive enthusiast is that we're all hoarders on some level. We yearn to collect various bits of paraphernalia plucked from our favorite race teams and derelict junkyard hulks.
Now Charly Molinelli Design has elevated our pack rat tendencies to high art. Or at least clever interior design. Using the cubed remains of an indistinguishable Ferrari, the designer set about crafting a coffee table that doesn't look like it belongs tucked away in a tacky man cave.
Behold, the Crashed Ferrari Table. The designer calls wedging the squared remains into the glass case "a dead hero placed into a coffin." Sounds fitting to us. There's no word on how much one of these would cost you if you wanted to take it home.
Then again, there's something more than a touch depressing about seeing all that red crammed into a pine box. Head over to the Molinelli Design site for a closer look at the table's creation. More...

Some believe that stopping smoking is as simple as trashing their tobacco products and using sheer willpower to beat back cravings. There are easier ways then brute force willpower alone. There are a variety of techniques and aids you can use to help you successfully quit smoking.
Create a special spot and set aside the funds you would have used to purchase cigarettes. After you reach a big goal, use the money to reward yourself. Smoking is expensive, so you might see that money you save by not doing it can buy you a short getaway!
Make a list and itemize all the methods you will use to make this lofty goal. Creating a personalized, quitting smoking list will help to increase the likelihood that you will be able to successfully quit.
There are typically many different ways for accomplishing any given goal, and the people vary in which of these ways will be most effective for them. Discovering what will work best for your particular circumstances is crucial. Create your own personalized plan for quitting.
If you are a good writer, create a song that outlines your goals for quitting smoking. Read it to yourself often, as a reminder of why you are quitting. It's a proven way to aid in the process to quit smoking.
Let family and friends know that you plan to quit smoking. They will push you to continue with your quitting journey. A support system can be tremendously valuable. Getting help from other people makes you more likely to succeed.
If you need some extra motivation to quit smoking, keep your family and anyone else that would be affected if you were to get sick because this habit in your mind. In America, about 20% of all deaths are from smoking-related illnesses. Do your best not to become a statistic.
Allow yourself three attempts at quitting. Try quitting cold turkey the first time around. Your chances of success are only five percent, but you might be that one in twenty. When you quit a second time, dial it down gradually. If that fails, pull out all the stops. Join a support group in person or online and discuss prescription options with your medical provider.
It takes commitment to get through the process of quitting, meaning you need to make the decision to do so. A lot of people aren't successful because they aren't in the correct mindset or they easily give up. Remember why you want to quit, and remind yourself often.
Those that are creative, expound the virtues of using a journal in theirquitting smoking journey. Many smokers smoke as a way to relax. If you keep a journal, you'll be able to see which situations stress out out, trigger your habit and lead to cravings. You'll also be able to write down your problems which will help you to work them out. A diary also has the added benefit of being free!
Cravings will hit you, even a few years after quitting. It is crucial that you don't indulge in even a single puff. Reaffirm the effort you went through to reach the point you are at now. Is it worth the risk and trouble again?
Develop a good understanding of where and when you smoke the most. When do you want to smoke the most? If you're prepared for tobacco cravings, you'll be prepared to deal with them and will be less likely to give in to temptation.
Try quitting with a friend. Finding someone who shares the same goals as you can increase your level of motivation. On top of creating a support system, the two of you can find alternative activities to replace your smoking habits together. In addition, you can share with each other the knowledge you've both learned so that you can both quit.
Taking away the reminders and triggers that make you want to smoke can also help you to stop smoking. Get rid of lighters and ashtrays. Clean your carpets, drapes and furniture as well as your linens, towels and clothing to remove the stench of smoke. Doing these things will make it less likely that you will be reminded about smoking and wind up with a cigarette craving.
If you feel your cravings are becoming too much, call a loved one for support. Whether it is a friend or a family member, reach out and share your feelings of temptation. Not only is talking a good way to distract yourself from your cravings, you'll also likely get the encouragement you need to recommit to quitting.
Schedule your time so that you frequent locations which prohibit smoking, especially when you first quit. For example, you might plan to spend the day at a local museum or discount cinema with friends. If you're taking your coffee break, avoid places where you used to smoke. If you will stay away from places that allow you to smoke, it can help you stave off cravings.
Use the Internet to find support. Participate in online support groups. There are many websites that are devoted to supporting those that are looking to quit smoking.
You may find it helpful to compare quitting techniques with others. Also, other quitters next to you can help you see everyone's struggles through this journey.
Hopefully, with the information in this article, you will be better informed of the steps you can take to quit smoking. If you've decided to quit, you have to expect that you'll experience some pangs and longings. However, you'll be able to resist these feelings more easily if you carefully follow the advice provided here.More...
The new BMW 3 Series Touring offers ten litres more boot space than the Mercedes-Benz C-Class estate. Ten litres!
It also beats the Audi A4 Avant's piffling rear deck by five litres. That's five whole litres of extra Things you can stack into the rear of the new Three! Seats down, you're presented with 1,500 litres of storage facility.
Just three months after the BMW 3-Seriessaloon went on sale, comes its more sensible and practical sibling; Watson to the saloon's Holmes, if you'll permit such a tenuous analogy. BMW tells us the new 3-Series Touring is 97mm longer overall, and 50mm longer in the wheelbase than its predecessor, which translates into 17mm extra knee room and 9mm more headroom in the back. That's good. Knees and heads are quite handy to have.

The boot is also electrically powered - as standard - and the upper glass area is capable of opening on its own too. If you specify the ‘Comfort Access' option and wave a strategically placed foot under the rear bumper, the boot will magically spring open. Progress!
When it hits the UK, it'll be launched with just three engine options - with more to follow - including the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel 320d, producing 184bhp and 280lb ft of torque while returning 61.4mpg, and the 2.0-litre TwinPower petrol engine in the 328i. Great basic Chicken Teriyaki recipe. Why use the bottled stuff when the make-it-yourself marinade is easy and so much tastier?

| 2 cupwhite rice; cooked | |
| 1 tablespoonSesame seeds | |

| 1 1/2 tablespoonBrown sugar | |
| 1 tablespoonginger; minced | |
| 1/3 cupSherry | |
| 1/3 cupVegetable oil | |
| 1/3 cupSoy sauce |
Combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, sherry, and vegetable oil in the marinade.
Put chicken and marinade in ziploc bag and marinate for 2-6 hours.
Grill over medium heat until cooked through; about 20 minutes. Slice on a diagonal bias and serve over cooked white rice. Top with sesame seeds.
A perfectly seared steak should be crisply browned on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. |
Grilling over a hot fire is a time-honored tradition in many regions. Like any other cooking method – sautéing, frying, etc., - the food acquires a taste and texture unique to the process. There is an art to setting up a grill and then creating perfectly cooked foods that are flavorful and taste of the “outdoors.”
Most foods can be grilled, whether over direct or indirect heat, including meats and poultry, vegetables, and fruitssuch as pineapples and bananas.
Note: In the UK, the term “grill” refers to the U.S. version ofbroiling.
To grill over charcoal, first stack the briquettes on a sheet of foil in the center (for direct heat) and light. The coals will turn to white ash in about thirty minutes. If they’re red, the fire is too hot for lengthy cooking (charring only). Carefully lift the grate and spread the coals. Return grate to position.
Propane gas grills require very little setup. Expect about 15 minutes for proper heat. Some units include ceramic briquettes to simulate hot coals – these do not add flavor, however.
Note that grilling is not the same as smoking, which is a process of cooking larger, tougher cuts of meat over several hours.
When selecting meats for grilling, choose smaller, tender cuts. Roasts and briskets, for instance, should not be grilled over high heat.

Jon Rundell
Our first party features major rising star Jon Rundell who has had some outstanding musical success recently both in terms of his production ability and with his Djing exposure.
Since running Intec Digital with Carl Cox, they have been sharing massive success with every release and club night they hold together.
His recent performances at The Egg in London, Brixton Academy and the Arches in Glasgow have been receiving glowing reviews and we feel it is time for him to come to Manchester.
Intec founder Carl Cox has always been a staunch purveyor and strong supporter of both Jon’s production work and DJ ability. Jon’s music has always been heavily supported but more recently, it is being hammered by stalwarts of the scene from Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice and Nic Fancuilli to Fergie and Cristian Varela.
Fitting time between his hectic summer schedule which includes Sonar, Tomorrow Land, Ultra Music Festival and Space he is coming to South to play one of his peak time sets.

Matt Cooper
Matt Cooper has always been kinda on his own within the vast soundscape of Underground electronic music; whether it be winning the praises of Mixmag, Pioneer and Space, Ibiza through various competitions; holding his own amongst some of the scene's heavyweights at the now legendary Dirty Disco parties in Leeds; or releasing his own brand of ass-shaking Techno gaining plaudits from all over the globe, he's always done it his way, unwilling to compromise on what he loves to do…make the party move.
He has some outstanding releases in the infamous Respekt label that includes artists like Cristian Varela, Marco Bailey and Spektre on their roster.
Recent sets include playing alongside Speedy J at the Mint Club in Leeds while also spinning alongside James Zabelia and Adam Beyer at Leeds O2. He is also featuring alongside the Techno legend that is CJ Bolland at The Aftermath this Summer.

Movement-UK resident DJ and owner Mark Santangelo will also be gracing the decks by focusing on the tougher parts of his style.
There is no doubt though that it will still follow his usual high standards and he is building a reputation for quality not just for his own night playing alongside Yousef, Hernan Cattaneo and Kiaserdisco but also his after his recent performance at the opening weekend of the new Warehouse Project alongside Digweed, Joris Voorn and Nic Fanculli.
